They say there are two seasons in Minnesota: winter season and construction season.
And construction season has definitely started...roads closed, ramps closed, freeways being clogged with equipment....closed on some days, open on others. You get the idea.
But construction season is here and rang in today...95 degrees today! (Just a couple weeks ago there were threats of snow!) And I'm kind of thankful for the humidity picking up because I'm not being shocked every time I get out of the car. Actually, kids were staying inside after school because it was "so hot" outside. And while it was 95 and slightly humid, when I finally got outside, I didn't think it was actually that bad. Where I come from, it could always be 105 on any given summer day.
Graduation is this week and graduation parties have already started. I was invited to one last weekend. For those who have invited me to grad parties, I have bought This I Believe, which I learned about from Linda who gave me a copy for Christmas. I've been reading it myself and found it to be inspirational with words of wisdom. So I figured, it would make nice graduation presents for seniors.
Tidbits by Thomas: I chaperoned the End of the Year/Yearbook Dance last Friday, and a good number of the kids asked me to sign their yearbooks. And especially for the seniors I taught in religion last year, I felt like i had to put something relatively meaningful. One of them, a golfer, I came up with on the spot: Life is like a golf ball. They have good holes and bad holes. They have divots to be more aerodynamic and fly better. However, sometimes the ball bets marked up with scratches that take away from the design. So keep to the good marks, and you will go farther in life.

Mother's Day
Happy (Belated) Mother's Day to all my mother readers out there!
Today the Yoshikawa's invited me over to join their immediate family for Mother's Day. I got to enjoy a steak sandwich and other good foods! I had met some of their children and grandchildren before, so I saw some of them again and got to meet others.
After I got home, I caught up on my 'Young and the Restless.' Between watching CNBC and substituting, I had fallen away from watching for a few weeks so I was behind on the latest and convoluted drama in Genoa City. Well I saw this past Tuesday's episode, a turning point in the drama, a good episode to watch and get caught up. But I missed the drama of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday...So after getting home tonight, I watched those three episodes online and caught up....which leas me to my Tidbit by Thomas..
Tidbit by Thomas: Gloria reminded Kevin of an apparently common phrase (though I had never heard it worded like this), "Yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery; and today is a gift, and that’s why it’s called the present."

Roller coaster ride
Wow, what a day for the stock market!
I was watching CNBC around 1:30 local time this afternoon when all of a sudden things started slipping, and slipping, and slipping! I happened to be on the phone with one of my friends also involved in the market during those exact 15 minutes the market glitched and things fell off the cliff. We just kept relaying the number back and forth as the market fell...400...500...600...700...Is there bottom...800...900..almost 1000?!?!?! Thankfully it didn't stay there. But it was definitely an interesting roller coaster ride and it felt like I had ran a marathon in 30 mins.
Tidbits by Thomas: I once quoted from House and said, "Life is a series of doors." In light of the new tires I needed to buy fro my Honda, "Life is only a series of wheels." (The last time I took in my car to get the oil changed at the Honda shop, they said I would need tired in like 2,000 miles. Well, I went those 2,000 and about 2,000 past that, so we knew it was coming. Last week, when I was coming home I heard an unusual humming noise. When I got home I saw one of my tires was low and the next morning it was flat, so it was as good of a time as ever to get those new tires. So now I have 55,000 new miles to go!)
