Easter

My Easter weekend was a good, relaxing time.

I went to the Easter Vigil on Saturday night with my friend Mark. We went to St. Agnes, a more traditional Catholic Church. The readings from the Bible were read in English, the Psalms were sung Latin, and the prayers for the Mass were sung in Latin. The Mass lasted about two and a half hours all together. It was a very lovely, solemn and joyful Mass all around.

Easter Morning, I joined Charlie and his family for Easter Brunch. It started with cocktails at Charlie’s place, and then we went to the Green Mill, a restaurant near his place. It was a very nice brunch. While Green Mill is normally known for their Pizza, this brunch had great breakfast food along with great pasta and meat dishes, including ham, roast beef and chicken cordon bleu. After that great meal, we went to a park near Charlie’s place and played some cornhole, a bean bag game. It was a good day with pretty good weather.

I’ve been working on my stamp collections every day some and been having a good time with that! I’ve been finding some great deals on stamps on ebay actually. When some of the great deals I got come in the mail, I’ll have to post pictures of them.

NOTE TO READERS: Save your stamps for me (please!)…. I can use them! Rip around the stamp and save! Apparently, newer stamps are hard to come by for various reasons including most people use the general forever stamps and because they are harder to get off the paper (so a number are lost in that process).

Tidbits by Thomas:

I went to Mass on Maundy Thursday with Chris and Dillon. I think the reading is appropriate to understanding the meaning of Easter. Of the four Gospels, John does not have “last supper” story as the others have or as depicted by Da Vinci. Rather John replaces it with this story about love. This summarizes the meaning of Easter in that Jesus came to love and to serve others, and this passage should serve as a reminder for Christian behavior:

Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father.
He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.
The devil had already induced Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, to hand him over.
So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.”
Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.”
Simon Peter said to him, “Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well.”
Jesus said to him, “Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.”
For he knew who would betray him;
for this reason, he said, “Not all of you are clean.”

So when he had washed their feet and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, “Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”

Birthday weekend!

On Friday, the school had a birthday card for me signed by some of the staff members. And of course of the staff told the kids, so kids were wishing me happy birthday left and right. To celebrate my birthday, I went out with a few friends to the Spaghetti Factory for dinner. I needed a restaurant that I could have a good non-meat, non-fillet-o-fish meal. So I got the Manager’s Special with clam sauce and mizithra cheese. It is in downtown Minneapolis, so afterwards we walked around and stopped in a couple bars. It was a very fun night, even if I was DD for my own birthday. In Saturday, I had to tutor in the morning. I didn’t do much in the afternoon, but for dinner I went out with some other friends, Charlie and our other friends, for the annual birthday gathering at Buffalo Wild Wings. This is the fourth year that we have been doing this. Since my birthday landed on a Friday in Lent, and all of us are Catholic, I figured it would be better to have this gathering on Saturday. It was me, Shawn, Ian, Mark and Charlie (L-R).

I got the regular, potatoes with cheese, 6 teriyaki and 6 parmesan garlic traditional wings. It was a good time as usual, great conversation and stories! And it was a good way to support one of the companies I own. Oh and new flash…they now have dry rub flavorings too! I didn’t try any of them though.

And today, Sunday, I actually didn’t do much besides go to church and sit around. It was a pretty nice and relaxing day. I worked some on my stamp collection. I’m sorting through used stamps and placing them together, and eventually they will end up in chronological order. I also worked a little on my scrap books and arranged a couple more pages.

Tidbit by Thomas: Welcome to pothole season! About a month and a half ago I noticed that one of my hubcaps was missing. I am sure Lily can attest between ungodly snow banks and monstrous potholes, hubcaps are a common object to disappear during the winters in frozen tundras. Well in the spring, the snow melts and revealing hubcaps all over the place…freeways, streets, curbs, alleys! I haven’t found one for my Honda, but these were apparently found on the street right around the corner.

Waiting for my computer again...

A couple weeks ago, I took my lap top back to the the geek squad to fix the problem they made with my stereo. Thus, my online access has mainly been limited to my phone, and I think blogger should make an app for iphones if it hasnt already. But anyways, thus the pause on posts. So Im quickly doing this from a school a computer for now.

Geek Squad sent me an email notification that my laptop is fixed and coming back, so hopefully it arrives soon...We'll see what happened to it. Stay tuned!

President's Day

So I’ve been hiding because of laptop problems. I was having problems with the AC connector in my laptop, so the Geek Squad had it for a couple weeks. Well I got it back with AC connector fixed, but the speakers don’t work. So I’m guessing I’ll have to take it back in since I fooled around with the volume setting without any luck.

I was able to survive on my iphone while I didn’t have my laptop, and it did most things that I needed. But I wasn’t able to blog, or submit paper work on it.

So what else is new?

I’m getting transferred back to the high school as a freshman tutor. It’s still part time, same pay, but at least I’ll be back with the school community I’ve been part of the last few years. I start that tomorrow, assuming there’s not a snow day tomorrow.

We’ve gotten like 15 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. Although 15 inches doesn’t seem as impressive compared to the nearly 20 inches we got December.

Thankfully I haven’t had to do much this President’s Day weekend. I’ve been resting from an infection on my side from a hair follicle (I’ll spare you the details and just say it’s ugly) and finally seem to be getting over some nagging congestion. Now that I’m getting out of the germ infested grade school, I sure hope that I don’t get sick nearly as often!

For some some-what exciting stories, last weekend I went to Loome Theological Bookstore in Stillwater, MN. It’s a used book store that deal in only theology books. It’s in an old converted church. It has a lot of old theology books some of them centuries old, but they only have heating in part of the store. So most of the of the store is just as cold as it is outside, which isn’t all that warm in Minnesota’s Februaries. I ended up picking up a couple of books, nothing too old or rare, but a couple of books that were interesting and cheap enough for me.

I also have recently got some cool new apps for the iphone, all free of course. Food Network has an app that you can watch shows on and get recipes. WebMD is a very neat app to have, especially when you’re constantly working around sick little kids. I also got an app “SCVNGR” which tells you about near by restaurants, stores, etc. I got SCVNGR when I went to Buffalo Wild Wings last weekend because certain places, like BWW, has a feature where you can take pictures and answer questions, like a scavenger hunt, to earn points. And these point turn into coupons/discounts on food items. And this morning, since I had nothing to do after moving my car around for the snow emergency, I looked up local apps for the Twin Cities. I found one that gives a history tour of Minneapolis through the sky way system. They have some good history and videos to go along with it...Sounds like something fun to walk through on a cold day here.

A 2nd Job

So I've been in full swing with my second job the last couple of weeks. I've picked up another tutoring job in which I go to students' house/apartment and tutor them for about an hour long session. I see each child for about two hours (about two sessions) a week. I see them for either math or reading. All the kids I see for this qualify for so many free tutoring hours through the whole No Child Left Behind thing.

So now I have two part times jobs that don't equate to a full time job, but it's better than nothing! I'd like to think I'm now a pretty good grade school tutor for reading and math. And if nothing else, I've also learned that working for government money is a pain in the @$$ and requires lots of tedious record and paper keeping.

Oh and we keep getting more snow. Last week we were spoiled with t-shirt weather that was in the mid-20s. This week we are back with more snow (we got about three more inches yesterday), and back in the single and negative degree weather! It's getting old waking up to sweeping off inches of snow from the car! Where's spring??

Tidbits by Thomas: Uncle Juichi gave me some old addresses (from like the 1970s) and names of Matsui relatives in Japan. I've been trying to research online how to possible see if these are still accurate addresses or what, but the internet hasn't been much help thus far. Any ideas?

Twenty-Eleven

Well, I'm finally feeling 'healthy' again. No colds or flues right now, but I'm sure it's only time before I get something 'fun' again.

But without further delay...are some of the Christmas Pictures of 2010

Christmas Eve

Auntie Yo and Ann

They look like they barely know each other.

Christmas Day

Ann and I with our Grandparents

Christmas Dinner
(I tried to pick the one where Lily looks the best)

The three brothers.

One would think Kyle was the one from Minnesota

Three Generations

Wow, we all (willingly) ended up in the right generation this year!

Two Dozen Cousins

Too cute not to post.

Yes, we are special.

The paparazzi attack the Aunties and Uncles
(Lady Gaga would even be jealous of this many 'Paparazzi')
(....Chrip Chrip...at least the crickets responded to that poor joke)

Ann and I had to at least pose with this year's Christmas Tree that mom put effort into.
