Las Vegas (Part 2)

Day 2 in Vegas

Pictures of brunch at Imperial Palace.

Andrew and I tried our luck on the giant slot machine at Bally's but didn't have any luck.

And a big group of us went to see Viva Elvis. It was yet another great Cirque Du Soleil and the Memphis touch was very nice. I particularly liked the integration of live singers to compliment Elvis' singing.

Couple Media Comments

So, thanks to on demand tv, I've been watching the series on the History Channel, America: the Story of Us. It's a series of about a dozen hour long shows that cover American history highlights from the founding to 21st century. Recently I watched the one on World War II. It opens talking about the attack on Pearl Harbor, goes into talking about the war fronts in both Europe and Asia, it talks about the war time economy ending the Great Depression and also the women work force. However, it fails to mention one of the big scars in our history, the interment camps! Did anyone else notice that? I guess only so much can be covered in an hour...however, no mention at all seems some what ridiculous. But as the saying goes, "History is written by the victors" (so to speak).

The other media comment...A couple of my readers are familiar with Katy Perry's song, California Gurls. (I'm not sure if there's a relation to the Beach Boy's song.) It's a popular pop song right now across the country. Well, a group redid it into Minnesota Gurls. The video and lyrics are great! I'm still laughing from it! For those able to watch the video...if you look carefully right before the one minute mark and two minute mark, you will see the giant Grain Belt sign, and in the background you can briefly see DeLaSalle High School.

Lyrics below:

I know a place, with summer, winter, spring and autumn.
Ten thousand lakes, finding a beach is not a problem.
Chewing lutefisk, lying underneath the pine trees.

Lumberjacks, bust their axe, trying to creep a little sneak peek (at us)
You can travel the world, but nothing comes close to a Grain Belt toast.
Once you angle with us, you'll be falling in love.

Chorus: Minnesota gurls we're unforgettable, waterproof boots with flannel on top.
Wind chaffed skin will turn your legs to popsicles, ooooo.
Minnesota gurls, our spam is fryable, farm fresh fun, we're working every block.
Midwest represent now zip your jackets up. ooooooo.

Stars in the sky, instead of only on the sidewalks.
We jam, in our van. Prince is on the stereo.

CHORUS

Spray on tan, now we ready.
Need a shovel this snow is heavy.
Uf dah, the big midwest.
These are the girls I love the best.
I met her at Lake Wobegon.
34 degrees, but no coat was on.
She's a hometown girl.
We went to Valleyfair, did the Tilt-a-Wirl.
On to Mall of America, California dude would you please stop starin brah?
Or keep on staring on to Target Field.
Ask Joe Mauer, these 'burns are real.
Outside ball, we're hangin' out,
We'll play through hail without a doubt.
You've got the Lakers, we've got the Wolves.
That comparison was terrible.
I regret that line, I'll take it back.
I'm Paul Bunyan, check out my axe.
I'm a real man's man, I just wanna show ya, cuz your representing Minnesnowta.

Vegas 2010 (Part 1)

I finally got around to up loading pictures from last weekend's trip. Yes, I've had a very lazy week. I find laziness breeds laziness. During the school year when I had to substitute and/or tutor, I found myself waking up naturally around 8 am, even with out an alarm. This past week I've been sleeping till 9 or 10 easily!

Well without further delay...the Vegas 2010 (AKA Marty's 50th and Ann's Graduation Trip...(What about my 25th?)) in picture highlights...

Day 1 (Thursday):
Since all the Baker Squares closed in Sacramento, and I forgot to call mom on her birthday, I decided to surprise her with the help of my accomplice, Ann, with a lemon supreme pie from the Baker Squares here in St Paul. So to make an interesting story short, I managed to get a frozen lemon supreme from B.S. and carefully packed the frozen pie in my carry on. Thankfully, not only did the pie make it in a cold enough condition to LV, but it also made it in pretty good looking condition. My accomplice did a good job and made sure we plates and forks when we go to the hotel. So we enjoyed it shortly after we checked into our rooms and ruined our lunch with dessert first, but it was well worth it!
None of my airport pictures came out flattering, but here is one of most of the group getting ready for dinner plans.
Part of us ended up going to the Japanese restaurant at Bally's....

Marilyn was extremely kind enough to treat me out to dinner there. We shared one of their boat plates. As you can see it, it came with an assortment of sushi, sashimi, teriyaki beef, assortment of tempura, gyoza and some sort of chicken katsu. It was a great meal to start the weekend off! (Thanks again, Marilyn!)
After dinner, a group of us adventured out across the street to the Bellagio and City Center, both under the ownership of the MGM stocks that I own.
Inside the Bellagio on the way to the tram to City Center is a chocolate shop that boast to have the world's largest chocolate fountain.
Inside the shopping center area of City Center...It was too open and plain for my liking...
The great view we (Andrew and I) had outside the window of the hotel.
